Closing the Loop
July 12, 2025 – Philippines
Rubber is everywhere — under our feet, in our roads, and embedded in countless industrial systems. But what happens when rubber reaches the end of its life? At Pacific Sole Manufacturing (PSM), the answer isn’t waste — it’s opportunity. As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable innovation, PSM is advancing the art and science of rubber recycling.
Now backed by the global infrastructure of Neyius Textiles, PSM is not only producing world-class industrial and footwear rubber components — it’s also redefining how those materials are recovered, reprocessed, and reintegrated into the production cycle.
Why Rubber Recycling Matters
Globally, millions of tons of rubber waste are generated each year. Without proper treatment, used rubber can take decades — even centuries — to decompose in landfills. Burning rubber creates harmful emissions. That’s why companies like PSM are leading a smarter, circular approach.
How PSM Recycles Rubber
At PSM’s facilities in the Philippines, rubber recycling is treated as both a science and a responsibility. The process includes:
- Mechanical Grinding – Used rubber components are shredded into fine granules.
- Devulcanization – A proprietary heat-pressure process breaks down the chemical crosslinks in vulcanized rubber, restoring flexibility and workability.
- Blending with Virgin Compounds – Recycled rubber is mixed with new materials to ensure durability while reducing raw material use.
- Re-molding into New Soles or Industrial Parts – The compound is reprocessed to create new products, including eco-friendly footwear components and insulation gaskets.
Applications of Recycled Rubber
Recycled rubber from PSM’s processes is used in a wide variety of applications:
- Footwear soles, especially for slides and casual clogs
- Playground flooring and gym mats
- Shock-absorbing parts for automotive and construction
- Non-slip safety surfaces
Sustainability as a Standard
PSM’s recycling efforts are part of its broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework. This includes:
- Zero Waste to Landfill targets in key production lines
- Employee-led recycling and innovation programs
- Community partnerships for collecting post-consumer rubber waste
- Research into biodegradable rubber alternatives
A Shared Vision with Neyius Textiles
Through Neyius Textiles’ international research support and supply chain reach, PSM is scaling its recycling programs for global impact. Together, they aim to make sustainable rubber not the exception — but the industry standard.
